Aims: To examine the independent and combined effects of exercise and nutrition as metabolic stimuli and consider how these responses may interact to regulate human performance and health outcomes.

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:
* Demonstrate an understanding of basic metabolic pathways both at rest and during exercise, with specific recognition of the different role and varied importance of specific substrates.
* Show awareness of the rate limiting steps in the above pathways and how this links to fatigue at a whole-body level in various real-world activities.
* Demonstrate an understanding of how and why certain macro- and micro-nutrients can facilitate human performance and health.
* Critically evaluate evidence relating to the potential ergogenic properties of specific nutritional supplements
* Design, conduct and critique original research to test the efficacy of specific supplements
* Gain the ability to present scientific data in a meaningful way to a lay audience.
