Requisites:
Aims: This unit provides an introduction into electric propulsion, covering the high-level drivers of electric propulsion, three specialist sections on motors, power electronics and energy storage and a final section on practical aspects of electric propulsion component design.

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit the student will be able to:� 
* Explain the key performance characteristics of electric propulsion system components
* Describe the construction and operating principles motors, drives and batteries and their controllers
* Explain the importance of mechanical design in electrical components for propulsion applications
* Interpret vehicle requirements in order to select appropriate propulsion technologies for a specific application
* Examine the basic performance characteristics of electric propulsion components from raw performance data
* Contrast the merits and drawbacks of different electric propulsion technologies.

Content: Introduction to electric propulsion and vehicle architectures
Electric machines design and performance
Power Electronics and machine drives
Energy storage system (chemistries, mechanical design and monitoring)
