Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to provide a solid grounding in product and service development, including emerging manufacturing technologies and best practice management techniques. The aim is to equip students with some key skills they need to make a success of any career which involves product and service development.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to:
* Outline contemporary challenges facing industry in relation to product manufacturing, product and service development.
* Critically evaluate product development approaches and be able to lead activities to improve process efficiency, cost, lead time or productivity.
* Apply a suitable theoretical model of product and service development to a contemporary example, providing appropriate critique.
* Give an overview of current and emerging technologies, methodologies, processes and tools and how they affect manufacturing, product and service development.
* Describe the process of manufacturing and how it varies according to product type, market size, organisational complexity and other relevant contextual dimensions.

* Product Development project portfolio and pipeline management
* Models of product and service development from early phase development through to product launch and lifecycle management
* Current and Emerging technologies, trends and processes in product and service development including manufacturing
* Tools and procedures for the analysis and management of manufacturing processes.
