Description: Aims:
This unit provides an introduction into electric propulsion, covering the high-level drivers of electric propulsion, three specialist sections on motors, power electronics and energy storage and a final section on practical aspects of electric propulsion component design.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit the student will be able to:
* Explain the key performance characteristics of electric propulsion system components
* Describe the operating principles of motors, drives and batteries and their controllers
* Examine the basic performance characteristics of electric propulsion components from raw performance data
* Contrast the merits and drawbacks of different electric propulsion technologies for specific applications.

* Introduction to electric propulsion and vehicle architectures
* Electric machines design and performance
* Power Electronics and machine drives
