Aims: To provide students with an understanding of the multinational corporation and issues associated with its organisation, control and operations.

Learning Outcomes: By the end, students should have a clear understanding of why the MNC exists, the various strategies multinational corporations can adopt and how this must be matched by the appropriate organisational structure. They should be aware of the unique advantages afforded to MNCs from their multi-nationality and appreciate some of the difficulties associated with the co-ordination and control of such organisations.

Professional Practical skills: active listening, considered quality questioning and responses.
Transferable/ Key skills: independent research, presentation, ability to appreciate multiple perspectives on issues, managing teams (F, A).

Content: Eclectic Paradigm theory, strategic options for international businesses, organisational architectures for MNCs, mapping strategy and structure. Relationships between headquarters and subsidiaries, relationship between subsidiaries and local firms. Problems of co-ordination and control across MNC structures and possible solutions.
