Description: Aims:
To provide the student pharmacist with a critical awareness of current issues affecting global public health and the pharmacist's potential role in contributing to improving global health outcomes, and for the student pharmacist to critically evaluate scientific and health policy information and to present a given topic as an oral communication supported by a written abstract.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit, the student pharmacist will be able to:
1. Discuss emerging issues and challenges in trans-national health.
2. Critically discuss the global burden of disease and the role of the pharmacists and the pharmaceutical industry
3. Discuss the role of epidemiology in health[JL1]
4. Critically discuss the nature of public health and how it is delivered.
5. Demonstrate an awareness of government agendas for health and social care in the UK.
6. Understand how the health and social services are structured to implement policy in the UK.
7. Demonstrate an awareness of current local and national public health policies.
8. Demonstrate the ability to provide input into local, national or international public health policies with a view to enhancing service delivery.
