Requisites:
Aims: This unit seeks to provide:
* An overview of the different political traditions and histories that have shaped the contemporary politics of a range of nations, selected from across the world;
* A description of the nature and functioning of these different nations' political institutions, analysing the differences between key structures of representation and government.

Learning Outcomes: Students who successfully complete this unit will achieve:
* knowledge of the recent history of politics and society, government, and policy-making in a selection of nations from across the globe;
* an understanding of relevant theoretical models and conceptual tools used in comparative analysis.

Skills: Skills in critical analysis, conceptual thinking, precision in the use of written and spoken language, exercise of independent judgement, reasoned argument and the planning/conduct/reporting of non-quantitative research are taught and assessed in this unit. Skills in effective learning are developed in this unit.

Content: The unit covers details the different political histories and institutions that have shaped a range of nations from across the world, viewing these individual case-studies within a comparative framework.
