Requisites:
Aims: To introduce students to the economic and legal contexts in which firms operate in Spain, to analyse key areas and aspects of change in the economic and industrial environment of Spanish business, to familiarise students with relevant concept and language of Spanish business environment.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have an understanding of the historical development of the Spanish economy from the Civil War until the present and be able to identify the main characteristics of the Spanish economy.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
* show an understanding of the basic principles of the Spanish legal system and Spanish business law;
* show understanding and appropriate use of basic Spanish legal terminology.

Skills: Skills in critical analysis, conceptual thinking, precision in the use of written and spoken language, exercise of independent judgement, reasoned argument, teamwork, and the planning/conduct/reporting of non-quantitative research are taught and assessed in this unit. Language skills are developed in this unit.

Content:
* the stages in the Spanish economy since the Civil War: autarchy 1939-1958;
* stabilisation 1959-1974; the transition 1975-85 and alignment with Europe 1986-96.
* the primary sector (agriculture, fisheries), industry (including energy), and the service sector (tourism and finance).
* Introduction to the Spanish legal system and the Constitution.
* Introduction to the principles of Spanish Business Law (Employment Law, Company Law etc).
* Analysis of socio-legal case studies (environment, unions).
The unit is taught in Spanish.
