Aims: Aims:
The aims of this unit are:
* To provide students with knowledge, understanding and basic skills in a range of evidence-based approaches to the assessment, formulation and management of risk to self and others.
* To provide students an understanding of risk assessments designed to assess a range of risk behaviours such as general violence, institutional violence, sexual violence, and self-harm.

Learning Outcomes:
After completing this unit students will:
* Be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of different approaches to assessment and formulation in forensic contexts.
* Be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of the processes and the tools of assessment and formulation in forensic contexts.
* Have developed skills in assessment and basic risk formulations using case vignettes and video clips.

Content:
This unit will provide students with:
* An evidence-based and professional approach in the assessment, case formulation and management of clinical risks.
* A critical understanding of the different methods of assessment including psychometric approaches of assessments and functional assessment
* A critical understanding of the different methods of formulation - for example case formulation using a cognitive behaviour therapy approach.
