Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: Work independently or in a group to design a research project and conduct data collection. To work independently to analyse, and interpret a research project.
Demonstrate an understanding of key public health theories and research methods
Employ ethical and respectful working practices with research participants, external stakeholders, peers, other researchers and technicians
Use information and health technologies appropriate for public health in data collection, analysis, and communication of research results
Produce a final research project report and defend this in a viva voce orally.

Aims: To conduct an independent or group research project under the supervision of an expert in their chosen topic area. They will gain first-hand experience in data acquisition, analysis, and scientific communication, with opportunities to develop advanced laboratory and/or fieldwork skills.

Content: Students will conduct an individual or group research project they have designed with the support of their academic and project/placement tutors. The project should include data collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings relevant to public health. The project and subsequent dissertation will need to demonstrate an understanding of the material covered in the taught units, through the justification for the project focus, the chosen data collection, the analytical approach and the interpretation of findings within the global public health agenda. Students will also be required to defend their work through an oral exam.
