Aims: The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of how to evaluate and monitor public health approaches and policies.

Content: This unit will introduce students to the concepts of public health monitoring and evaluation for developed and implemented public health approaches and policies, such as those discussed in Unit 4. It will discuss the importance of ongoing monitoring and evaluation for the enhancement and adaptation of public health approaches and policies. It will teach students methods for carrying out programme and policy evaluations, considering study design, data collection, analysis, ethics and stakeholder involvement, along with the importance of dissemination of findings. It will discuss the importance of economics in the evaluation of public health approaches and policies through cover economic evaluative approaches and integrating them into public health monitoring.
