Learning Outcomes: |
* To be able to learn independently and transfer knowledge into unfamiliar situations in a spirit of critical enquiry. * To understand the requirements for academic writing, including referencing and the appropriate use of graphs, diagrams and tables. * To demonstrate academic writing skills within the production of a project dissertation. * To be able to give a presentation of the project work. (All of the above will be taught, facilitated and assessed.) |
Aims: | To learn new mathematical topics and to apply new and previously acquired knowledge.
The project description will state the mathematical material to be studied. It will also describe the type of application, which may be to synthesise a collection of material, to apply results and methods to new examples, to carry out computations or simulations, or to perform data analysis. |
Skills: | Independent study, report writing and presentation. |
Content: | The programme of study for each project will be that defined by the project description. Individual project supervisors provide academic direction and tutorial support during the project.
