After taking this course the students should be able to:
* Compare and contrast a range of different renewable energy resources and technologies
* Use quantitative and qualitative approaches to evaluate renewable energy outputs and their environmental impact
* Discuss the economic and social barriers to their implementation
* Present an evidence-based argument to solve a real-world scenario using renewable energy resources.

Aims: | To provide an overview of the range of renewable energy resources and technologies and a methodology to critically compare and contrast them.
To provide a methodology to evaluate the benefits of renewable energy and the economic, social and environmental barries to their effective usage.
To develop a set of theoretical tools that could be used to evaluate the impact of renewable energy usage.

Content: | Definition of energy and renewable energy. Units of measurement.
Key concepts and approaches to renewable energy including reasons for increasing usage.
Amount, availability and storage of renewable energy.
Key quantitative measures and formulae used in the context of renewable energy, such as power equations.
Economic and social considerations for renewable energy production and usage.
Environmental considerations for renewable energy production and usage.
Impact of renewable energy production.
Case studies of a small number of renewable energy resources selected from: solar energy, biomass energy, hydro electric power, tidal energy, marine current, wind energy, wave energy, geothermal energy.
