- Demonstrate systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of influences on psychological functioning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of conceptual issues within psychology.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the core areas of psychology.

Synopsis: | Gain an introductory knowledge of the basic concepts of psychology, the science of mind and behaviour.
You'll learn about some classic psychological studies, as well as more recent research, and explore historical and current themes and debates. This will help you to gain a broad understanding of the key concepts, ideas and methods necessary for the study of psychology, as both a theoretical and an applied discipline.

Content: | The course content will cover six main areas:
History of psychology: knowledge of conceptual and historical perspectives in psychology.
Biological psychology: the biological basis of behaviour, neural plasticity, the endocrine and immune systems.
Cognitive Psychology: sensation, perception, learning, memory, and consciousness.
Individual differences: intelligence and personality.
Developmental psychology: cognitive development, social development, attachment and parenting.
Social Psychology: group processes, intergroup processes, social cognition and behaviour, and relationships.
