Synopsis: | Develop knowledge in the field of clinical psychology. You will be introduced to the fundamental characteristics of psychological disorder, the principle elements of psychological models used in the clinical field, and the work of clinical psychologists. |
Content: | The content of this unit consists of:
Discussion of the phenomenology of psychological disorders, and approaches taken to classifying them.
Explanation of models of disorders, with a focus on psychological approaches.
Consideration of the fundamental principles of cognitive-behavioural theory and practice.
Moving beyond the individual to examine the various sociocultural factors that impact on abnormal psychology.
Exploring links between the nature of conceptualisations of psychological disorders and the interventions developed to treat them. |
