From 2 to 6 March students and staff at the University of Bath are invited to participate in a wide range of social and cultural events. This is an opportunity to meet new people, discover the cultural richness of our campus, learn new things and have fun. All events are free, but most require registration.

Monday 2 March

Discover China

We are delighted to welcome the CEO of English-Chinese Education Services who will talk to us about how we can help support the academic journey and improve the student experience of our Chinese students. This event welcomes members of staff and students and will offer great insights in the Chinese education culture.

Capoeira and Kizomba workshop

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. Kizomba is a genre of dance and a Portuguese-language musical genre originated in Angola. This event is an opportunity to know more about both and to try some steps.

Tuesday 3 March

Qigong taster class

Qigong’s been around for 5,000 years or more. Qi” roughly translates as Life Force Energy and “Gong” as Work, therefore we understand Qigong as working one’s internal energy. We will try some exercises, you will feel calm and more flexible at the end of this workshop.

Brazilian film night - The Second Mother

Que Horas Ela Volta (The second mother) discusses the delicate relationship between employer and servant. This is skilfully subverted and scrutinised in this funny, serious study of class in modern-day Brazil.

How to bring positive change in a situation of conflict

This event offers us the fantastic opportunity to join humanitarian campaigner Amy Peake. After a career in law and in the fitness industry, Amy founded Loving Humanity in 2014, a Bath-based charity that is working to improve the lives of thousands of girls, women and vulnerable people around the world.

The Global Lounge

An opportunity to meet new friends and speak or learn a foreign language. During this evening, you will meet other students who are native speakers of French, German, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. With other language learners you will play games, share experiences, have fun. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday 5 March

Origami and green tea

Origami is the traditional Japanese art of folding paper which has existed since the 17th Century. You can pop in at any time during the friendly session to sample this mindful activity. This event is open to all. Some Japanese snacks and green tea will be served. Following the success of the Origami and green tea sessions in semester 2, we are delighted to be able to host this event again.
