Qualifications and durations

Overview

Students should have been engaged for at least two years in an appropriate clinical or research setting in one or more hospitals or institutions approved by the appropriate Board of Studies and have completed the majority of the work for the degree during that employment. Students may present a thesis embodying the results of work done mainly while the candidate is employed in the above mentioned setting or they may submit a substantial body of published work or works embodying the results of personal observations or research in some aspect of Medicine.

The final stage of MD award is a viva voce examination, in which students are required to defend the thesis to a Board of Examiners.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

  • Graduates holding a qualification which is recognised for registration by the General Medical Council of the UK.

English Language requirements

Certificates must be dated to within two years of the start of the programme of study.

  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components)
  • PTE Academic of 62 with no less than 59 in any component
