Year 1 covers core subjects such as marketing, finance and operations. These principles will provide context for the rest of your course. During this first year, you’ll study with Management and International Management students.
In Year 2 you’ll develop the depth of your marketing knowledge. You will be able to customise your studies with optional units. These let you explore other areas of interest such as business law and emerging markets.
In Year 3 you’ll apply your skills and knowledge on a placement year. This will be a marketing role and is usually paid. You’ll gain a competitive advantage in the job market with this valuable experience.
In your final year you will grow your marketing expertise with specialist units. You’ll develop a product from a brief, prototype it, and plan a launch. These skills will help you to excel in a professional marketing role.

This course lasts 4 years. It starts in September 2019 and ends in 2023. Induction week starts on 23 September 2019.

At Bath, our courses are made up of units of study. Compulsory units cover core concepts that you'll need to understand as part of your degree programme. Some of our courses also offer the opportunity for you to study optional units. These allow you to specialise in particular areas of knowledge that interest you.
As an undergraduate, you will be expected to take 60 credits (ECTS) in each academic year. These are usually split into 30 credits for each semester you study. Sixty credits are the equivalent of 1200 notional hours of study; this includes contact time with staff and your own independent learning.

You'll be able to choose from a number of optional units in years 2 and 4. Here are some examples of the units currently being studied by our students.
In Year 3 you’ll apply your skills and knowledge on a placement year. This will be a marketing role and is usually paid. You’ll gain a competitive advantage in the job market with this valuable experience.
Recent employers include Unilever, L’Oréal and HelloFresh. The average UK salary in 2017 was £17,238 and the highest was £22,000. Average salary is based on data provided by all of our placement students. 100% of our 50 Year 3 students went on placement in 2017.

‘Doing my placement is literally one of the best things I've ever done’
Your application, especially your personal statement, should explain your motivation for choosing this degree and any relevant non-academic interests and achievements. When describing relevant experiences you should reflect on what you have learnt from them, how they have influenced your development or how they are relevant to business or your future career.
Your application is more likely to be successful if you demonstrate an active interest in understanding people, work and organisations. This should include evidence of working with others and developing transferable skills from your studies or through work experience or involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Your previous academic study is also important. For example, if you have taken GCSEs then we prefer applicants with a strong set (such as grade A or 7 or above in the majority of your GCSEs).
We prefer applicants with entry qualifications that demonstrate a high level of study in both essay-based and numerical or analytical subjects. For example, if you are studying qualifications with a narrow range of subjects (such as A levels) we prefer both a mathematical or science subject and a humanities subject. Some subjects, such as Economics, may demonstrate both skills. We also prefer more traditional subjects (like History) over less traditional subjects (like Accounting). If you are taking a qualification which includes a wider range of subjects (such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma) it is likely you have studied the desired breadth of subjects.
If you are taking A levels, we may be unable to consider an A level in your own language (unless it is English or Welsh). We do not accept A levels in General Studies. Your offer can include A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics, but not both. We are able to consider the Access to HE Diploma for entry. Your Access course units should demonstrate a broad skill-set that includes both numerical skills, such as those developed in Mathematics or science-based units, and discursive reasoning skills, such as those developed in essay based subjects such as English or humanities.
Studying Business units as part of your Access course is beneficial but not essential. However, as we are keen for you to have developed a broad range of skills, no more than 30 credits should be from units within the Business Studies subject area.

If you are studying an Access to HE Diploma or Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma, please make sure that your UCAS application is submitted by 15th January 2019: if you apply after this deadline, then it may be too late for us to include you in our interview process.
