Come listen to Prof Jan Hofman (Bath) and Dr Albert Chen (Exeter) who will present their exciting work delivering water security projects in Africa, before participating in a follow-up chat. Don't forget to bring your beverage and pastry of choice!
The OVERCOME project, led by Dr Albert Chen and colleagues at University of Exeter, will identify existing gaps in climate hazards and disease risk management research and how digital innovation can reduce their impacts. The project partners from the UK, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe will co-design an innovate holistic framework to help partnering governments and local authorities identify the timing and locations of hazards and diseases.
Prof Jan Hofman will present his work at the University of Bath and at KWR (Netherlands). In conjunction with UNESCO, Jan has been researching the governance of cities and their water worldwide. This includes a focus on cities in Nigeria, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Namibia. Using a bottom-up approach, students and young professionals first connected with local stakeholders to undertake a baseline assessment of priorities in each studied city. The work is now being expanded to include the cities of Windhoek and Walvis Bay in Namibia with the involvement of a Bath MSc student.
