An Evening of Impact
At this online event, you’ll hear from three PhD Women in STEM Scholars about their cutting-edge research that’s tackling real-world problems.
Here are the researchers joining us for an Evening of Impact – the first in a new series of events:
The panel will be chaired by Professor Marcelle McManus, Co-Director of the Centre for Sustainable & Circular Technologies and Professor of Energy and Environmental Engineering. Marcelle is the winner of the 2020 FDM everywoman in Technology Award and 2019’s Most Inspirational Woman in STEM in the West winner.
Sam Hayward is completing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in orthopaedic biomechanics and mechanical factors affecting lower back pain.
Leen Jabban is completing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and is working to enable amputees to feel again by developing sensory feedback methods for upper-limb prostheses.
Bethany Patenall is developing smart wound dressings that decontaminate bacterial infections by using cold atmospheric plasma – a form of lightning – which can be applied to the skin.
