Join us for the launch of ‘Assessing the case for basic income in light of automation and labour market change: A Comparative European perspective’, a new report from Institute for Policy Research (IPR) Research Associate, Dr Luke Martinelli.

Chaired by Professor Nick Pearce, and featuring contributions from Joe Chrisp and Carys Roberts, this launch event will summarise the core arguments developed across six chapters of the report, including:

• the relationships between different forms of technology (automation and digitalisation) and structural transformation of the labour market;
• the ways in which basic income may be congruent with ongoing technological and labour market change;
• insights into labour market risk as a determinant of welfare preferences, and the potential implications for political support for basic income;
• and an analysis of the issue of affordability – and associated trade-offs between fiscal and distributional constraints.

This report is part of the IPR research project, Assessing the case for basic income in light of automation and labour market change, funded by DeepMind.
