Calling all linguists: the world needs you!

Now is a great time to train as a translator and/or interpreter. There is a critical shortage of qualified linguists in the UK and globally, so exciting opportunities are open to people with these valuable skills.

Join us to find out more about careers in interpreting and translating, and our master's courses that cover these topics.

During this event, you will:

The event will take place in-person on the University of Bath’s campus in Room 4.16 in the Chancellors' Building. We highly recommend that you join us in person to get the full experience of the event, meet our academics, alumni and speakers and see Bath’s outstanding facilities.

Registration and light lunch

12:15pm - 1:15pm: Please come to the event venue to sign in on arrival. A light lunch will be provided.

Teachers and current students will be on hand to answer any questions.

1:20pm - 1:40pm Steve Slade, Former Head of English Translation, International Court of Justice. Title of talk: 'Translation – an international career' [1]
1:40pm - 2pm Helen Campbell, Director of the National Network for Interpreting. Title of talk: ‘Conference Interpreting in International Organisations’
2pm - 2:15pm Q&A
2:15pm Break (refreshments provided)

Session two

Time Details
2:30pm - 3:15pm Alumni panel
3:15pm - 3:30pm Summary Q&A and break-out discussions with alumni, guest speakers, and teachers
3:30pm - 4pm Tour of interpreting labs with current students; and talk about MA programmes at Bath and funding opportunities (including scholarships and placement bursaries)
4pm - 4:30pm Brief interpreting taster session
4:30pm End of event
