The Skills Series has been developed for School of Management alumni and is hosted by Katie Calvert-Jones, Head of International Engagement and Alumni. These sessions are designed to be short and useful for our alumni, offering practical knowledge and skills.
The most common problems people have at work relate to working with others. This session Catherine Stothart explores four typical styles of interacting with others and the different impacts these can have on colleagues. We will discuss the strengths and pitfalls of each style and how to flex your behaviour to have a positive impact and influence.
We will cover:
- the context - hybrid working, generational differences
- emotional intelligence and the influence gap
- four typical styles of interaction - the inner drives, decision-making, external behaviours, and stressors of each style
- conflict triggers between styles
- how to flex each style to improve collaboration and get better outcomes for all
