Engaging with Policy Makers

A half-day workshop to help academics engage with and influence policy discussion, debate and formulation

Do you want to know how to engage with policy makers? Do you want to be able to influence political debate?

Then this workshop is for you. We are delighted to offer you a free half day interactive workshop with lunch on helping you to engage with and influence policy discussion, debate and formulation. This workshop is being delivered by experts in the field, Claire Bolderson and Caroline Finnigan of Engaging Communications.

The workshop will help you to:

  • understand what policy makers want from academics
  • identify and establish key points in your research and communicating them effectively
  • write executive summaries
  • engage with multiple stakeholders – including those with opinions that run counter to your research evidence

What the session will involve:

The session will utilise audio and video examples and discussion of good and poor practice, writing exercises aimed at clarifying key points and an opportunity to “Brief the Minister” through a role play exercise.

Date, Time and venue

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 29 June from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. There will be an optional lunch from 12 until 12.30 for anyone who wants to join early and meet the team and trainers.

Eligibility,

Any member of staff or postgraduate student at the University of Bath are able to apply for this workshop.

There are 25 spaces available which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
