This presentation is the result of some joint work Gilbert Laporte has done with Ola Jabali, Jorge Mendoza, and Samuel Pelletier. The presentation will take the format of a standard research presentation that will be aimed at a general audience.
The share of electric vehicles (EVs) for goods distribution has increased significantly over the past few years. In this talk, I will provide a descriptive overview of some of the main features relevant to the use of EVs in freight transportation. These include the factors affecting the adoption of EVs, some technical background material on batteries and battery recharging, market penetration, and cost competitiveness. The talk closes with a presentation of several operational research problems related to the use of EVs, and with some research perspectives.
