This workshop is facilitated by Dr Ben Miles and Dr Maddy Nichols, Spin Up Science and Dr Ali Hadavizadeh, Acorn Biz Solutions.
As a small cohort, you will be paired with an early stage company or academic team looking to explore the commercial potential of their idea. Guided by a mentor team, you will spend a week helping the client build a business from the ground up.
Each day you'll explore different aspects of the business: discovering market opportunities, engaging with potential customers, validating the technology-fit, developing financial forecasts and commercial strategies, and building industry contacts. The week will culminate in condensing everything you've learnt into a business pitch.
Along the way, you will experience first-hand what it's like to work in a start-up, gain confidence communicating with the business world and engage with the start-up community including company founders and our professional partners.
‘A road map to becoming an enterprising Early Career Researcher’ series
This session is the third in a series of three workshops for ECR staff, designed to develop entrepreneurial skills and business acumen across a broad range of disciplines and build a cohort of future mentors across the University.
The workshops can be taken independently, or as part of a series, depending on your prior experience and interests.
However, please note you will need to have taken at least one of the previous sessions to sign up to this final workshop in the series.
'A road map to becoming an enterprising Early Career Researcher' series is funded by the UKRI-EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) at the University.
