Lunch with Impact: From Engagement to Impact – Routes to Influencing Policy Processes

Join us for our latest Lunch with Impact, where we will explore routes for turning research into meaningful policy impact.

This interactive session will be led by policy impact and engagement experts. Drawing upon previous experience within the civil service and politics this session will provide valuable insights into policymaking processes. It will help you identify ways in which your research can make valuable contributions to policy.

What you can expect to explore at this Lunch with Impact:

  • the policymaking process
  • how to identify policy stakeholders and engagement opportunities
  • how to communicate with and influence policymakers
  • how to evidence your policy engagement and impact
  • question and answer session with the policy specialists

Staff and postgraduate students from all disciplines, particularly those in Science and Engineering, are encouraged to attend. This event is hybrid, and lunch will be provided for those attending in person.

Session leads

The session will be led by:

  • Dr Johanna Meyer, Policy Engagement Manager, Institute for Policy Research
  • Emily Orazzo, Policy Impact Specialist (Health & Wellbeing), former Civil Servant and Policy Advisor to Police & Crime Commissioner
  • Thea Wright, Policy Impact Specialist (AI & Digital), former Policy and Engagement Assistant at NGO and intern at the Institute for Policy Research
  • Antony Morrison Policy Impact Specialist (Sustainability), former Political Advisor and Head of Campaign Communications

Lunch with Impact workshops

This workshop is part of a series supported by the University’s ESRC and EPSRC Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAAs) along with the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), to support researchers in identifying, generating, evidencing and achieving impact from their research. Sessions are designed to enable attendees to apply the information, knowledge and tools to their own research.
