An overview of the University's policies and procedures for recruitment and selection, and your legal responsibilities.
2018/19 course frequency: This course is likely to run in October, November, January, March, April and June. Course dates are published approximately 6 to 8 weeks beforehand.
This course focuses on a structured, systematic approach to recruitment and selection with an emphasis on University policies and procedures. Particular attention will be paid to your understanding of the legal responsibilities and the content is designed to complement the following on-line learning courses which are recommended to all staff, particularly managers: Diversity in the Workplace; Unconscious Bias.
Please note that this course focuses on the procedural aspects of the recruitment process and does not cover interview skills as part of the session but guidance and tips can be found within the Development Toolkit.
Intended learning outcomes
After attending this course you will be able to:
identify and outline the legislative context of the recruitment process and reflect on the implications to your role at each stage
identify and follow the main steps involved in the recruitment process
describe the responsibilities you need to carry out at each step of the process
know where to go to for information and help

Effective Behaviours Framework (EBF)
The Effective Behaviours Framework (EBF) has nine key behavioural areas. This course will help you to develop skills and knowledge related to the EBF behavioural groups highlighted below:
- Using resources effectively
- Delivering self and others
- Working together
Please note that attending the course does not provide evidence of achieving these behaviours; you will need to demonstrate them by applying your skills and knowledge.

We assume that if you need permission or agreement to attend this course you will have arranged this before booking, and have also jointly discussed the following with your line manager to ensure that the training is suitable and your learning can be transferred back to the workplace:
- how this training will help to deliver your individual/team goals
- the expected outcomes (i.e. what is expected to change/improve as a result)
- any support required post-course to enable you to transfer your learning back to the workplace
Your manager will receive an automated notification when you book or cancel a place on a course using ESS.
