Arts Scholarships

The Arts Scholarship programme supports students who are keen to develop their individual arts interests alongside their studies. Successful applicants to the programme can receive up to £1000 a year, for up to three years and be part of the scholar network, collaborating with like-minded peers and performing at our excellence showcase Platform. Arts Scholars typically have a high level of experience in one of the art forms below. Scholars may have shown their work in exhibitions, performances, and/or have won awards.

Arts scholarships are available to all University of Bath students in any year of study. You are welcome to cite any art form which may include (but is not limited to) the following:
• Performing Arts (including acting, music, dancing, singing, spoken word, musical theatre, circus etc.)
• Technical/Backstage skills
• Visual Arts (inc. photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, digital, video art etc.)
• Excellence in piano

Important information on application process for 20-21 academic year
Following an extraordinary few months, and in light of the issues caused by the global pandemic and lockdown, we are postponing the awarding of new Arts Scholarships for Semester 1 of the 2020-21 academic year. It may be possible to offer Scholarship awards later in the year alongside the Tuition Award cycle. We will provide an update and more information about this in the Autumn.

Tuition Awards

This award contributes to the cost of arts tuition or classes in the spring term, and can be used at the University’s creative centre The Edge or externally.

Tuition Awards, are granted annually to students that meet the following criteria:
• Eligibility (i.e. having conditional offer) to study at the University of Bath as an undergraduate
• In receipt of the Bath Bursary, Income Related Scholarship or Gold Scholarship
• A demonstrable commitment to personal arts progression

These tuition awards are made possible thanks to generous gifts from the following supporters:

Kathryn & Simon Arnold (four music awards) – piano, organ, keyboard or singing tuition. Cullum Family (music award) – any instrument Nick Berry (six theatre/ dance/ visual arts awards) – all art forms considered

In light of the issues caused by the global pandemic and need for social distancing, we're currently developing an approach to musical practice and 1:1 tuition at the University that follows guidelines. As a result, information about Tuition Awards and how to apply will be announced this Autumn.

BeCreative Award

Launching in Autumn 2020-21 this new, income-related award of £3000 is for students to embark on a 'creative' journey of their choosing during the academic year. The BeCreative Award helps students develop skills, confidence and talent via a unique creative and mentored experience, otherwise unaffordable to them whilst at University.

Successful recipients will:
• Receive £3,000, paid in three instalments, with the opportunity to re-apply for up to 3 years
• Pastoral support and suggestions from staff on achieving your selected activity
and be expected to
• Use their award to achieve a programme of creative practice
• Attend at least 3 x creative workshops offered by the University Arts team during 2020-21
• Commune and socialise with other arts scholars cohorts, finding opportunities to collaborate, skills share and socialise
• Report regularly on progress

Applicants will need to give a clear indication of the 'creative journey' they aim to undertake with the award and why. More details on the scholarship can be found on the BeCreative Award page.
