Elevate: An innovative leadership and development programme for staff identifying as women, from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds in the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter and UWE, running from November 2021-May 2022.
Aurora: A sector-wide leadership development programme women, now in its 9th year, with Bath participants joining from January to June 2022.
Elevate and Aurora Mentors
We are now urgently seeking volunteers from both academic and professional services staff to act as mentors to Elevate and Aurora participants. Mentors will offer developmental support for women who have successfully completed a competitive application process for the programmes.
Prospective mentors do not need to be in a senior position, or identify as female, or be from a BAME background, but should be committed to listening and focusing on the needs of their mentee. They should bring their own experience and insights, to help their mentees reflect and learn. (Mentors are not responsible for delivering the content of the programme.)
For general guidance on what mentoring involves, see our mentoring guidelines
Aurora mentors will work with a mentee from within the University of Bath.
Elevate mentors will work with a mentee from one of the other partner Universities across the region.
Working with a mentor is always a highly-valued part of the Aurora and Elevate programmes, with both participants and mentors reporting a rewarding and educational experience from their interactions.
As a mentor, your commitment would be:
- to meet (online) at least four times with your mentee (each session lasting approximately one hour) between January and June 2022.
- To attend a virtual briefing session lasting up to 1.5 hours in January,
As well as having access to mentoring resources, you will have an opportunity to come to a Mentor support session half-way through the programme in 2022.
We would like to have a diverse cast of mentors so that participants are able to express their preference, although we don’t make any guarantees about what sort of matches may be possible. The questionnaire therefore includes questions about your professional interests and career stage (grade / experience), and an optional question about your ethnic background. You should also indicate which programme(s) you are volunteering for.
If you are interested in being an Elevate or Aurora mentor, please complete this Mentor matching form by 3 December.
We will let you know if you’ve been matched with an Elevate mentee during the week of 13 December. Aurora mentees will be matched in early 2022, and we will also keep your details on file for further opportunities.
