Change between studying online or attending In Person Teaching (IPT)

What to do if you need to study remotely for a Covid-19 related reason, or if you are returning from studying remotely to on-campus teaching.

Overview

During the 2020/21 academic year, the Bath Blend helps you study safely whether in-person or remotely if you can’t come to campus for a Covid-19 related reason. Depending on your own circumstances, studying remotely could be temporary, or last a bit longer.

To help us provide you with the best possible support, ensure your safety on campus and plan the best use of teaching spaces, you will need to tell us on SAMIS if you are studying remotely, or coming to campus for In Person Teaching (IPT).

You can update your method of study at any point throughout the year.

Regardless of how you need to study this year, you can still access a wide range of support to help you succeed, and get involved with clubs and other activities to make the most of your University experience.

Please double-check your expected end date for studying remotely is up to date. If you are now able to attend IPT, you will need to change your method of study and update your term-time address.

If you are currently required to self-isolate, sick or in quarantine, you must not come to campus until you are fully recovered or your isolation is complete. Please tell us if you are self-isolating so we can support you and look after our community.

Studying remotely, and not attending IPT on campus

Update your record on SAMIS:

  • Log in to SAMIS.

  • Choose ‘Participating in online study only’ as your method of study, confirm the reason you need to study online, and the start and expected end date. Submit your form.

  • Your department will have told you what replaces In-Person Teaching (IPT) if you can't come to campus. If you are unsure, please contact your Director of Studies.
  • If you are self-isolating please also tell the University by completing the form, Tell us if you need to self-isolate. This will help the Student Services team support you, if you need it.
  • Your department will regularly update its class lists to reflect your method of study.
  • If you are studying a course that requires you to attend a lab or workshop and you might not be able to attend, please discuss this with your Director of Studies.
  • You could also consider joining the SU's Remote Leaners Advisory Panel to share your experience of studying fully online. Feedback from this group will be reported to key decision-making groups in the University.
