British film and literature

On this 11-week course you will study a selection of films and texts to identify common themes and analyse these in the contexts of history, geography, and literary and film culture. Teaching is through lectures with follow-up small group seminars.

The course includes:

  • Poetry from various parts of the British Isles.

  • The novel and film Atonement by Ian McEwan.

  • The film Kes directed by Bath director, Ken Loach.

  • Additional British films that provide insights and a view of British history, geography and/or culture.

Course delivery

There will be online recorded lecture material for you to work through independently. A 50-minute session will also run on Microsoft Teams every Thursday from 11.15am-12.05pm, from 4 February to 27 May 2021.


In order to be awarded credits for this course, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.
