Teacher and student in a one to one writing tutorial.
Develop your academic writing

In January 2022, a limited number of 1:1 writing tutorials are available from Monday 10 January to Thursday 27 January 2022. In Semester 2, more opportunities will become available from 14 February 2022 (week 20).

One-to-one online tutorials

50-minute online tutorials are delivered on Microsoft Teams (or Zoom, if preferred). Tutors will contact you at the time of your meeting.

One-to-one in-person tutorials

If you’d prefer to meet a tutor face-to-face, in-person appointments are available on campus in Eastwood Lodge, room EL1.03.

Email feedback

You can also get feedback on your writing via email.

The writing tutor will read your work and prioritise key areas so you can develop and improve the quality of your writing. Their feedback will be sent to you by email within three working days.

Please book the writing tutorials or request email feedback on MySkills (up to three per year). Bookable options appear on MySkills one week in advance of the time slots. You need to submit a draft of your work when you make an appointment.

Student experience

One thing I found particularly useful was that the tutor told me the most common mistakes I made... Throughout the rest of the year I’ve picked up on these mistakes more easily and have achieved the highest marks I ever have out of my whole time at university. I’ve progressed from a 2:2 in first year to a 1st overall in final year.  (Mackyla Palmer-Logue, 4th Year Social Sciences)
