On Track to Bath: Science Track
A free one-year curriculum enhancement programme for students thinking about studying physical or biological sciences at university.
The On Track to Bath Science Track is for students considering studying Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmacology or Physics. It is NOT suitable for students who are considering studying medicine or applying for a medicine course.

By joining On Track to Bath’s Science Track you will enhance your understanding of science and its challenges, gain experience of what it is like to study science at university, receive regular support in your academic study, develop your lab skills and learn how to make a successful application and transition to Higher Education from specialists in the field.
What you can expect from this track
You will attend a programme of nine on-campus sessions during which you will have the opportunity to:
- find out what it is like to study science at university
- experience hands-on activities in our state-of-the-art laboratories
- increase your knowledge and understanding of science
- improve your lab skills
- develop your research skills
You will also learn how to make a successful application and transition to higher education.
Academic research project
Through undertaking an academic research project you will develop essential skills and practices for studying at university level and enhance your understanding of science and its challenges.
During the programme your coordinating tutor will guide you through the process of designing your own research. You'll have the opportunity to work with other students to design a question, plan your experiment and then use our lab facilities to undertake the project and analyse the results.
You can choose a topic that interests you from a variety of research themes. Past projects have included areas such as the effect of alcohol on fruit flies, the physics of water clocks or the development of biodiesels.
The project will also help those students who want to go on and take the Extended Project at AS level.
Is this track suitable for you?
This track is suitable for those considering taking a degree in subjects such as Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmacology or Physics. Please see our Undergraduate Prospectus for full details.
This is NOT suitable for those considering studying Medicine or applying for a degree in Medicine.
To be eligible you will need to be academically-able to access courses at the University of Bath in your chosen subject (you need a minimum of six GCSEs at grades A* to B or 9 to 6 with English and Maths grades at least C or 4). You should also meet one or more of our Widening Participation criteria. For the Science Track you must be studying at least one science subject plus another science or Mathematics subject at A level.
Please be aware that each science degree at the University of Bath requires a specific science/specific sciences to be taken at A level and may require specific GCSE grades. For example our Chemistry Degree programme requires students to have grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
