On Track to Bath: Social Science & Psychology Track
A free one-year curriculum enhancement programme for students considering a course in Social Sciences, Social Work, Education or Psychology.
The On Track to Bath Social Sciences & Psychology Track is for students considering studying subjects like Social Sciences, Social Work, Education or Psychology at university.
Access the expert teaching and strong interdisciplinary research collaboration between our Social Science and Psychology departments. Experience lectures and seminars with our academics and PhD researchers whilst developing fresh insights into topical issues and enjoying the rich resources and world class facilities that can be offered on campus.
By joining On Track to Bath’s Social Sciences and Psychology Track you will have the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and abilities to be a successful Social Scientist, including enriching your critical thinking, evaluation and writing skills and enhancing your ability to analyse and communicate effectively. You will strengthen your UCAS application by demonstrating a proven development in the key skills required for studying the Social Sciences and Psychology.
What you can expect from this track
You will attend a programme of nine on-campus sessions during which you will have the opportunity to:
- find out about studying social sciences and psychology at Bath
- discuss and analyse topical issues
- explore the relationship of individuals with society
You will develop the necessary skills and abilities to be successful, including:
- critical thinking
- independent study skills
- analysing and communicating effectively
You will discuss topical issues and make the most of the facilities on campus.
Academic research project
Through undertaking an academic research project you will develop essential skills and practices for studying at university level and enhance your understanding of your subject area.
During the programme your coordinating tutor will guide you through the process of designing your own research. You'll design a question, plan your research and then use our facilities to undertake the project and analysis of the results.
You can choose a topic that interests you from a variety of research themes. Past projects have included areas such as memory, validity of eyewitness testimony, ethical adverts and social networking.
The project will also help students who want to go on and take the Extended Project at AS level.
Is this track suitable for you?
This track is suitable for those considering taking a degree in subjects such as Psychology, Education with Psychology, International Development with Economics, Criminology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Sciences or Social Work. Please see our Undergraduate Prospectus for full details.
To be eligible you will need to be academically-able to access courses at the University of Bath in your chosen subject (you need a minimum of six GCSEs at grades A* to B or 9 to 6 with English and Maths grades at least C or 4). You should also meet one or more of our Widening Participation criteria. For the Social Science and Psychology Track you must be studying at least one humanities subject at A level.
If you are interested in our Psychology degree then you must have at least grade B or 6 in GCSE English and Mathematics, and preferably an A or 7. Please also see our list of desirable A Level subjects and A Level subjects. For International Development with Economics you must have grade A or 7 in GCSE Maths plus English grade B or 6.
