Pay & pensions

The University of Bath offers competitive salaries (benchmarked against the Education sector) and some of the best pension schemes in the UK to help you save for your future.

  • University of Bath Salary Scales - the main pay scales used at the University of Bath - There are two pay increases a year - an Incremental increase in April (based on policy and position on pay scales) and a National Union negotiated pay increase in the Summer
  • Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) - Open to Grades 6 and above - Your contribution as an employee is 9.6%, with the University of Bath contributing 21.1% to your pension fund. The scheme accrues at 1/75th and offers x3 death in service cover
  • Avon Pension Fund (LGPS) - Open to Grades 2 to 5 - Your contribution as an employee is based on your pensionable pay, with the University of Bath contributing 16.5% to your pension fund. The scheme accrues at 1/49th and offers x3 death in service cover

  • Buses - The University of Bath has it's own bus station with the uni-buses running every 10 minutes to and from Bath Spa Train Station - popular with both students and employees

  • NurseryPlus - the University of Bath Salary Sacrifice Childcare Scheme to use if your child is enroled into the award winning on campus Westwood Nursery
  • Childcare Voucher Scheme (Fideliti) - the University of Bath have teamed up with Fideliti to offer a Salary Sacrifice Childcare Voucher Scheme which can be used with hundreds of childcare providers
  • Cycle to Work Scheme - the University of Bath Salary Sacrifice Cycle Scheme; through a hire agreement, you can choose bike, component bike parts and safety accessories up to the value of £1,000
  • Motorcycle Purchase Loan - The interest free loan can be used to purchase new or second hand vehicles from private sellers and associated safety gear. The maximum loan is £1,500 which is deducted from your net salary over 24 monthly instalments. Any member of staff paid monthly by Payroll is eligible
  • Season Ticket Loans - If you use public transport to commute to work, and live within 25 miles of the university you may be eligible for a loan to cover the purchase of a season ticket. The season ticket must be valid for a miniumum of 6 months and is repayable by equal deductions from your salary
  • Car Sharing - There are dedicated car sharing spaces in the East and West car parks on campus
  • Electric Bike Loan Scheme - The University of Bath, with support from B&NES, offers staff the opportunity to hire a 'Take Charge Bikes' electrical bicycle for up to two weeks. A refundable £50 deposit is taken although the loan is free
  • Team Bath Gym and Fitness Membership- Join the University of Bath Sports Training Village in conjunction with Team Bath
  • Staff Discounts - a variety of discounts have been negotiated on your behalf by the University of Bath with local and national businesses.
  • Give As You Earn: donate to charity through your salary - Donate via Payroll and the Charities Aid Foundation

Sport and leisure

At the University of Bath you have access to a very unique environment where you can mix working with being active - our world-class Sports Training Village is a very popular employee benefit.

  • Sports Training Village - The world class Sports Training Village at the University of Bath has outstanding facilities on offer and all university staff are eligible to join.   • Campus walks - the University of Bath is the official holder of the National Collection of Yew trees. The unique location of the University campus offers some stunning lunchtime walks with many points of interest

Learning and development opportunities

At the University of Bath there is a wide range of opportunities for you to continue to learn and develop whilst working:

  • Courses and programmes for staff
  • Library - situated at the heart of the University of Bath campus and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The library has a collection of over 400,000 ebooks, 360,000 printed books, 22,000 online journals and 460 current print journals over 5 floors. The library has a Self Access Language Centre (SALC) on Level 5 with free resources in 72 different languages
  • IT training
  • Centre for Learning & Teaching - Provides support advice and guidance to staff to ensure the delivery of high quality learning and teaching

On campus arts and culture

At the University of Bath there is a vibrant on campus public arts programme. As an employee you are also eligible for discounted rates on courses offered on campus:

  • The Edge Arts - The University of Bath centre for Arts and Culture, offering a variety of Theatre, Dance, Sculpture, Exhibitions, Workshops and Talks throughout the year
  • Foreign Languages Centre - Employees of the University of Bath are eligible for discounted course fees for study at the Foreign Languages Centre. Courses are held on campus or in Bath city centre
