Writers of Bath and the West Country

On this 11 -week course you will study the work of selected writers who have lived and worked in the West Country, from Sheridan to today. Teaching is through lectures with follow-up small group seminars.

The course focuses on key texts and will look at specific themes in the literature. In the past, the course has drawn on texts by the following writers:

  • Richard B. Sheridan (plays, 18th century)

  • Jane Austen (novels, late 18th - early 19th century)

  • Thomas Hardy (poetry and novels, late 19th - early 20th century)

  • A variety of poetry (from 18th, 19th and 20th centuries)

  • A contemporary writers’ work

To be awarded credits for this course, a minimum of 80% attendance is required .
