Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Theoretical Soft-Matter Physics/Emergent Phenomena

Lecturer in Theoretical and Computational Soft Matter,  Non-equilibrium & Emergent Phenomena

The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint a Lecturer with an established research profile in one or more of the fields of Theoretical and Computational Soft Matter, Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, and Emergence. The appointee will become a member of the Theoretical and Computational Physics group (http://www.bath.ac.uk/physics/research/theory/), which has an international reputation for developing innovative theoretical and computational methods and applying them to interdisciplinary problems, often in collaboration with experimentalists. Group members are active in numerous international, national and local collaborations, and are major users of the University’s high performance computer (http://www.bath.ac.uk/bucs/services/hpc/). The successful candidate will establish a well-funded independent research programme that complements and enhances existing activities in the group and around the university, for instance by forming links to the Institute for Mathematical Innovation, the Departments of Chemistry and Biology, and the Centre for Collective Behaviour and Networks. The appointee will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and other administrative duties within the Department.

The University of Bath is a leading research-intensive University. Physics at the University of Bath is a research-led Department that was ranked 13th among UK Physics Departments in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) assessment exercise. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women, who are currently under-represented in academic posts.

Applicants are requested to upload statements (maximum 2 pages each) describing their proposed research activities and approach to undergraduate teaching with their application.

For informal enquiries about current research activities in the Theoretical and Computational Physics group, please contact Prof. Nigel Wilding  n.b.wilding@bath.ac.uk on +44 1225 384 164. For a more general discussion of the role, please contact Professor Carole Mundell (Head of Department) on +44 1225 385 579 or email c.g.mundell@bath.ac.uk.
