Research Associate in Analysis of PDEs for Wave Propagation

Research Associate in Analysis of PDEs for Wave Propagation

Applications are invited for a 3-year full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position to work with Dr Euan Spence as part of the EPSRC-funded project "At the interface between semiclassical analysis (SCA) and numerical analysis (NA) of wave propagation problems" http://gow.epsrc.ac.uk/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/R005591/1

This proposal will mainly be concerned with acoustic and electromagnetic problems, modelled in the frequency domain by the Helmholtz equation and the time-harmonic Maxwell equations.

The overall philosophy and aims of the project are to:

1) Prove fundamental results in the SCA of wave propagation motivated by NA and applications, and

2) Use these results, along with other tools and results in SCA, to prove fundamental results in NA about wave propagation.

This PDRA position will be focused on the SCA aspects (there will be a second PDRA focused on NA), and will involve collaborating with Dr Spence, along with the two visiting researchers on the project: Prof. Jared Wunsch (Northwestern University) and Dr Jeffrey Galkowski (Stanford University).

The post carries no teaching or administrative duties. There are generous funds available under the project for attending conferences and conducting research visits.

The successful candidate will have, or will be nearing the completion of, a PhD in the Analysis of Partial Differential Equations. The knowledge and experience of working in the areas of SCA and/or microlocal analysis would be an added advantage.

This is a full time post, offered on a fixed-term basis for 3 years. The start date will be after 1st May 2018 by mutual agreement.

As part of your application, please submit a Cover Letter and a CV (including publications).

Informal enquiries are very welcome and can be made to Dr Euan Spence (E.A.Spence@bath.ac.uk).

The interviews with short-listed candidates are expected to take place at the beginning of April.
