Lecturer in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is inviting applications for a Lectureship in Mathematics to extend and broaden its strength in pure mathematics.

The Department has particular strengths in Algebra, Analysis and Geometry (including Algebraic Geometry, Calculus of Variations, Differential Geometry, Geometric Analysis, Group Theory, Harmonic Analysis, PDEs, Operator Theory and Representation Theory) with a strong tradition of interdisciplinary links with applications.

We are seeking applicants with a developing track record of independent research of international standing, strengthening existing departmental research areas and/or expanding our research into neighbouring mathematical fields such as (Algebraic or Analytic) Number Theory and Topology.

The appointee will be expected to sustain a leading research programme, and to be active in developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding, as well as toshare fully in the life of and responsibilities within the Department.

Candidates should also have a strong interest in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising graduate students.

Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly encouraged. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. Flexible working options will be considered wherever possible. For more information visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/hr/working/flexible-working/.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 academic staff from all areas of mathematics. In addition, our activities are supported by the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation, which helps businesses solve complex mathematical problems, and promotes cross-campus mathematical research and international collaborations.

Alongside completion of the online application form, candidates should upload:

- A full Curriculum Vitae

- A statement of research interests of up to 3 pages, also explaining how their work would strengthen existing activity at Bath

- A one page summary of teaching experience and strategy

Closing Date:  4th April 2018

Interview Dates: Afternoon of 2nd May and Morning of 3rd of May

Informal enquiries may be addressed to: Dr Lucia Scardia (L.Scardia@bath.ac.uk) or Professor David Calderbank (D.M.J.Calderbank@bath.ac.uk).

The closing date for this job opportunity has now passed, and applications are no longer being accepted for this position
