Are you an experienced industrial or technology manager who would like to apply your knowledge and skills to help develop the next generation of Engineering Managers?  With a reputation for outstanding teaching, innovative research and strong links with industry, The Department of Mechanical Engineering is recruiting a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Management to support the growing student numbers in our MSc programmes run jointly with the School of Management. 

About the role 

The primary focus of the role will be in the delivery the Engineering Business Management (EBM) programme units, working with our existing Director of Studies and Professor of Practice. The key areas covered in these programmes include the following: product and service development; operations management, supply chain and logistics; manufacturing management; business strategy; project management; commercialisation; management for sustainability. Experience in several of these areas is expected.

The successful candidate will be required to design and deliver high quality teaching which is informed by significant professional expertise gained via practice. To include: designing units of study and their assessment regimes; identifying learning objectives and teaching methods; developing materials and resources, including materials for use online; effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning activities.

To ensure the ongoing development and success of the EBM programme, the role will require regular liaison with industry (both existing and potential contacts), generating new ideas for relevant, stimulating and applied learning opportunities, including but not limited to student projects, case studies, workshops and guest lectures.   

We are open to consider both full time and part-time (at least 50%) candidates depending on the skills, experience and attributes that the applicant possesses.

About you 

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • A track-record of industrial impact, and preferably engagement with education, training and skills development either in industry or academia.
  • Relevant backgrounds include: management position at a major engineering organisation; engineering consultancy roles; manager in a successful start-up; creator of industrially focussed research projects. Applicants with relevant industrial experience gained from roles within Universities or government departments are also welcomed. 
  • Ability to successfully collaborate and innovate; building strong networks externally and internally to deliver great results.
