Bath Insights Internship

Available exclusively to University of Bath students, Bath Insights provides the opportunity to gain work experience across various University departments on campus.

The format varies between departments, but all internships are on-campus or hybrid. There are no remote-only internships, as a key part of completing an internship is gaining experience of working with colleagues in a professional working environment.

Your skills and attributes

We know finding work experience can be a real challenge for students in years one and two as organisations often ask for evidence of prior experience and skills you may not have had a chance to develop. We also recognise that these internships are intended for students with minimal or no prior work experience, so we have designed the process to be as inclusive as possible. However, to be successful in any of these roles you will need to be someone who has:

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Effective planning and organising skills
  • Strong IT and digital skills; willingness to develop further IT skills
  • Experience of team working and awareness of different styles and approaches
  • A commitment to high quality customer service
  • A professional attitude and approach

Additionally, you’ll be:

  • Able to take the initiative and be proactive
  • Able to cope with competing and shifting priorities and work towards deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, committed and resourceful

Available opportunities

All of the internships have been designed to give you the opportunity to gain work experience in a safe, supportive environment.

You’re not able to apply to a specific internship, as this programme is designed to offer professional work experience across a range of areas, all of which will provide interesting and enriching experiences. The panel will review all applications, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre. If you are successful at that stage the panel will match you to the most appropriate internship.

Wherever you are placed, you will work on a real project, developing a range of sought-after skills and competencies, while being supported by the host department and the Careers Team. Every project will give you the chance to develop workplace skills and contribute blue skies thinking and practical solutions.

Free accommodation is provided for the duration of the internship.

Read an outline of each available internship. If you have a particular interest in a department or area of work, please indicate that in your application’ as this is also mentioned in the selection criteria questions.

Eligibility

The programme is open to most University of Bath undergraduate students in years one and two. If you’re studying a distance learning course or visiting the University on an exchange, you’re not eligible to apply.

Selection process

Applications will be reviewed, and a shortlist of students will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre that will run from 3-4 March 2025. Although you will not be able to apply for a specific internship, you can indicate a preference, and this will be considered during the assessment centre and matching process.

Questions and support

Bath Insights is run by Careers in conjunction with colleagues across the University. All interns will receive pre and post internship support, with onboarding and induction provided by the host department. If you have any questions about the programme, please contact internships@bath.ac.uk.
