Research Associate (Translation and Impact) in the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT)

We are seeking an organised and self-motivated research associate to carry out translational research and impact-generating activities under University of Bath EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account and the post-holder will form part of a team delivering translational research activities, together with a parallel post within our Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub ERDF project. The Research Associate (Translation and Impact) role will involve working to support Impact Acceleration activities within the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT) at the University of Bath.  CSCT is a major cross-disciplinary research effort, involving more than 60 academics across the University, and with a cohort of ca. 70 PhD students within its Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT).  It develops new molecules, materials and processes for sustainability, structured around four main themes: Energy & Water, Renewable Feedstocks & Biotechnology, Processes & Manufacturing, Healthcare Technologies.

The role will involve carrying out translational research projects associated with research within the CSCT, delivering outcomes that enhance the impact of the research within the Centre.  This will include translational activities related both to research generated within the academic team and problems identified by industrial and commercial partners.  The projects will be closely aligned with the aims of CSCT in developing new sustainable technologies, and collaborative impact development opportunities between CSCT researchers and external partners.

The successful applicant will ideally have a relevant technical background as well as experience of working with a range of partners, including commercial or industry partners.  Working with Professors Chick Wilson and Matthew Davidson, the post will also support impact-related activities within CSCT more generally, together with the Centre leadership and management teams.

This represents an exciting opportunity to further develop your research, project management and impact-generating skills as a gateway to an academic or translational research career.

The post is fixed-term with funding available for up to 18 months. Interviews are planned for early November. The Departments involved and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the present gender balance in academic roles within the University, and particularly welcome applications from women, who are currently under-represented in academic posts. This is a full-time role but we would consider part-time working, job share or secondment requests.

This is a fixed term contract up until March 2020

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Chick Wilson ( or Professor Matthew Davidson (
