Applications are invited for the post of Lead Workshop Technician based in the Science Faculty workshop located within the Department of Physics.

You will have specific responsibility for the running of the mechanical workshop and will be required to assist with the design and manufacture of parts and assemblies used in both research, teaching and students final year projects.

This position requires a suitably qualified and experienced machinist (CNC and manual experience), able to manufacture precision parts using lathes, milling machines and various other general workshop machinery and hand tools. As part of this job you will be expected to train and supervise other workshop users including students, staff and other technical staff, and you will also be expected to look after the routine maintenance of the machinery.

Liaison with external fabricators, production of drawings and stock maintenance is also required.

The campus environment creates a great Village environment in which to work and it’s easy to meet and share good practise with others.

In return for your commitment, we offer a range of great benefits. You will be able to take advantage of discounted access to the facilities at the University. We also offer a competitive rate of pay, a great pension scheme, tax and national insurance savings through salary exchange schemes (on nursery care, cycle-to-work and fitness schemes) and up to 25 days annual leave per year.
