The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology is an internationally renowned Department with over 90% of our research rated as world leading or internationally excellent in the recent REF exercise.  Overall, we ranked in the top 3 of universities with a School of Pharmacy. The Department is committed to supporting excellence in research and teaching and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

We now wish to appoint an outstanding individual who will provide expertise to both the department’s research themes (Drug & Target Discovery, Medicine Design and Clinical Research) and the newly established Centre for Therapeutic Innovation (Bath CTI) in the areas of advanced cell and molecular biology and/or biophysics.  This will complement existing skills and interests in the areas of molecular pharmacology, signal transduction, (mechanisms, markers and treatment of) inflammation, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and (bio)pharmaceutical sciences particularly in the area of drug delivery. The individual will be working closely with the Director of CTI (Prof. Banafshe Larijani) and will play a leading role in establishing focused interface projects with various researchers in the department and in BathCTI. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants with recent experience in advanced molecular biology, signalling and biophysics.

It is anticipated that the post-holder will have a strong research portfolio (including high impact publications, grant income and collaborations at national and/or international level) and will be able to enhance the Department’s and the Centre’s research capabilities.  The successful applicant be expected to make a significant contribution to both research capacity in the department and BathCTI, as well to teaching on our UG programs in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Natural Sciences and Biomedical Sciences.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof. Steve Ward (+44 1225 383273 or S.G.Ward@bath.ac.uk) and Prof Banafshe Larijani (+44 1225 384040 or bl666@bath.ac.uk), however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.

Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. The Department currently holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award and we are working to further improve equality, diversity and inclusivity within the Department.  We particularly welcome applications from women and other under-represented groups.
