The Teaching Support Technician is a key position within the Faculty’s teaching support activities.

Working closely with the Technical Manager, Technical Supervisor and Health and Safety Co-ordinator, you will be responsible for the logistics and operation of the Physical Chemistry teaching lab within the Chemistry Department. You will also provide cover for our Synthetic laboratory and general support for other chemistry related activities within our Faculty.

You will organise routine maintenance for the wide-range of analytical instruments used in the delivery of our teaching and research activities. You will also have the capacity to produce accurate user-information/procedures, demonstrate the practical elements of instrumentation and have the capacity for problem-solving.  Ensuring undergraduate teaching sessions are prepared for in advance is key to first-class service provision, as is ensuring the technical team, academic staff, and demonstrators are supported.

Effective time-management skills, efficiency, multi-tasking, enthusiasm and a flexible approach to work are essential. Clear communication, an ability to trouble-shoot and diplomacy are also extremely important.

The ideal candidate will have experience in technical support within a chemistry teaching and/or research environment.  A proven interest in physical chemistry would be an advantage, but we would consider other chemical disciplines for the right candidate.  Candidates with a Chemistry background, at degree level are encouraged to apply.
