Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath.

You will work under the supervision of Professor Dorothy Buck in a position funded by the Leverhulme Research Programme Grant  "Knots in Nature: Knotted DNA".

You will contribute to this multi-institutional, collaborative research project by designing topological models of entangled biopolymers, based on your expertise modelling both open and closed curves. The objectives are to understand: (1) the relation between chromosome organization, DNA knotting, linking and supercoiling during DNA replication and the mechanisms that unlink and unknot chromosomes after replication, (2) the pathway of DNA knotting and linking during site-specific recombination, and (3) the relation between DNA wrapping on proteins and DNA knotting.

You should have carried out research in topological modelling of knotted and entangled macromolecules and have experience collaborating with experimentalists. You will join an active research group in Mathematical Biology consisting of 10 core academic staff plus affiliates, post-docs and PhD students.

This post is full-time and is being offered on a fixed term contract for up to 11 months.

Please contact Professor Dorothy Buck (d.buck@bath.ac.uk) should you wish to discuss this post further before applying.

The closing date for this job opportunity has now passed, and applications are no longer being accepted for this position
