This post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Mathematical Science is in support of a research project entitled “Complex Nonlinear Waves in Fluids” which will consider the behaviour of nonlinear surface and internal waves in a variety of configurations: (1) Waves under the effect of electric fields; (2) Interfacial waves in stratified flows; (3) Waves on flows with vorticity.

The research will involve methods spanning nonlinear models to the full Euler equations, in both steady and unsteady cases, using asymptotic and numerical methods.

You will have a PhD in Applied Mathematics or a closely related area. Skills and experience in the fluid dynamics of waves and in numerical and asymptotic solution methods related to these is essential to role. You will be expected to undertake, under the guidance of Prof. Milewski, research at the leading edge of fluid mechanics, and to disseminate the results in leading academic journals and conferences.

This post is full-time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on a fixed-term contract for up to 9 months until 30 September 2020.
