An excellent opportunity for a Digital and Academic Skills Course Leader has arisen within the Skills Centre at the University of Bath. 

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, hardworking, flexible, collaborative and committed Course Leader with the appropriate experience and vision to lead on the digital, academic study and employability skills for the University of Bath, providing support for students on embedded and non-embedded courses. 

As the successful post-holder, you will play a key role in the planning, management, design and delivery of the Skills Centre’s Digital, Academic and Employability Skills provision. We provide high-quality support with digital and academic literacy, language development, and other academic and employability skills for home and international students across the University at undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PGT) and doctoral level.

Working in partnership with academic departments, partners in Academic Services, and with fellow Course Leaders, you will:

  • fulfil a consultancy/advisory role, supporting academic staff in the design and delivery of a wide range of digital, academic and employability skills 
  • lead and manage a teaching team of mixed backgrounds, skills and experience
  • build engaging opportunities for learning in a variety of different ways, with a specific focus on supporting under-represented students groups
  • build study skills support within academic programmes
  • deliver skills development opportunities to students directly
  • manage the development, delivery and evaluation of all skills provision for students at all levels of study
  • support the ongoing teacher development programme for colleagues within the Centre through the design and delivery of CPD opportunities You may also be required to contribute to the Pre-sessional Programme for international students with assessment and lesson observations 

We are looking for an innovative, creative and resilient person. We need a Course Leader with an appropriate level of qualifications, together with the leadership and management skills and knowledge essential to ensuring a consistently high performing team.. You will be required to manage the quality of teaching, learning and assessment of a diverse range of skills provision to meet student needs.

The post is full time (36.5 hours per week). We offer a competitive rate of pay, generous pension scheme, 26 days of annual leave per year, as well as eight bank holidays and five extra discretionary days. 

The Skills Centre is a central service providing skills development opportunities to the University’s student community, through embedded provision within academic programmes and extra-curricular activities. We have around 70 staff, 50 permanent and 20 casual within the Centre and are a warm, friendly group of staff, highly collaborative in the way we work. We work closely with academic staff and students alike to add value to the student learning experience. We pride ourselves on working flexibly to find innovative and high quality solutions to ensure we meet the needs of the academic community successfully.
