An excellent opportunity to join a project focusing on immune evasion mechanisms in the major human pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus. A primary aim of the project is to develop a detailed understanding of how S aureus evades the complement system. You will be responsible for developing and optimising new methods to accurately measure complement deposition on the bacterial surface. In parallel, the project will dissect the role of surface proteins in mediating complement resistance and characterise the recruitment of complement regulators to the staphylococcal surface. Lastly, genome-wide association studies will be performed to identify genes and/or mutations associated with complement evasion.

Ideally you should have experience in flow cytometry, protein expression/purification, S. aureus genetics and gene manipulation and/or investigating protein-protein interactions.

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised candidate who is capable of working well in a team and independently. Applications are welcome from candidates with a PhD in microbiology and/or immunology.

This is a fixed-term Academy of Medical Sciences funded post with an anticipated duration of up to 18 months.
